![]() ![]() They have the best UI of any DIY automation platform out there. It's a great little setup if your needs are very minimal. Overall it may sound like I'm bashing Wink. My personal recommendation is Lutron Casetta combined with the Lutron SmartBridge. Lighting is probably going to be one of the most used portions of your automation system so I'd put a lot of focus here. There are a lot of different technologies for automated lighting (Z-wave, Insteon, Lutron) all of which communicate differently. You are mostly correct with regards to lighting but surprisingly they all don't necessarily work with any hub. As noted above there are a lot of "bridges" for Wink but the only reason to go this route would be if you were already heavily invested in Wink hardware or one of the very few wink only devices was essential to your setup. This pretty much makes the Wink useless unless you happen to either already be heavily invested into Wink devices or require as a part of your system one of the very few Wink ONLY devices (Eggminder, Porkfolio, Nimbus) that you couldn't get an equivalent for a different hub/platform. In addition you won't be able to use any Wink logic (or robots) based upon security panel information so any automation that you do will have to be performed else where and pushed back to Wink should you desire any changes on Wink devices. The problem with this setup is that you can't really interface locally with the Wink hub meaning that everything has to come through the cloud via their API. Basically your only option would be to use another hub/device to interface with your security panel and potentially your Wink. Nor can you realistically create an even remotely reliable or functional security system with Wink even though many things might indicate otherwise. Q2: The quick answer is.you can't interface a security panel to Wink. ![]() The biggest issue with this (if you are just starting in HA) is that there will be numerous things that you think you will be able to do later to find that there is no way to do so with Wink. It has a nice interface and works well enough for anything that isn't mission critical. Wink is a very small and closed environment. If you have ANY desire to extend functionality beyond Winks official list of supported devices. Specifically, if you choose to go with Wink you'll be missing on on extensibility. Q1: Yes, you'll be missing out but this will be the case no matter which hub option you choose. I figure with any platform I can get light controls and timers / dimmers to work fine for my needs. Q3 can I use Wink as a 'bridge' and do OpenHab instead? How do I get this something to interface with Wink? Or do I need to go Indigo or Smartthings(which I did find guides for)? I couldn't find any integration guide with Wink is why I ask when googling. I have a DSC PC1550 right now hat I plan on replacing with something. Q2 I am planning on integrating a home security board like a DSC 1832 or some kind of similar board as a replacement for what I have. Q1 Will I be missing out on anything from SmartThings or Indigo? The above clearly says go with a Wink hub. Can't tell if it works with smart things? ![]() Rachio, integrates with Wink and SmartThings, ? For indigo?ĮcoNet Rheem water heater control. Ecobee3 (prior to HomeKit) integrates with Wink or SmartThings and looks like a plugin for indigo ![]()
